Pastured Chickens

Our broiler chickens arrive from the hatchery at one day of age. They are started in the brooder house where they are safe and able to be kept at constant warmer temperatures. They will live their entire lives cage free. Chicks are monitored twice a day for vigor and health.

At about 2 weeks of age the chicks move from the brooder to pasture, weather permitting. They learn quickly to forage for insects, worms and sweet clover. They have freedom sunbathe, take a dust bath or lounge in the shade. The chickens are brought into a safe enclosure at night to protect them from predators.

In addition to the pasture grasses the chickens continue to receive a mix of non-GMO grains and natural minerals. There are no animal byproducts in our custom feed mix and the chickens never receive antibiotics or artificial growth promotants of any kind.

The result of raising chickens in a healthy environment on pasture is plump, good sized birds. They have naturally higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids and lower saturated fats than conventionally raised chickens. The meat is tender and moist, suitable for all cooking applications. Birds are processed at a USDA inspected facility.
